WHAT IS HOT SALT BLACKING/BLUING?

Blacking or Bluing is a finish for metal which prevents rust from forming that holds oil to extend the protection. The process works by changing the composition of rust from orange/red iron dioxide, Fe2O3, to black, creating a protective coating of iron trioxide or Fe3O4. Fe3O4 or black rust has a tight molecular structure which impedes rust from forming.

Through working in my local RFD I have learnt to black items such as actions, trigger guards and an odd air rifle in a small pot, Even with 40 years joint experience of the process we could see how it could be improved upon and developed. With the process being full of risks and dangers we decided growing what we had was out of the question and the journey for 'Black & Blue' started.

Before we moved to our new location, customers would enquire about hot blacking. We never pushed or developed this because we didn’t have the space to do it ourselves and we used to outsource the jobs.
So now that we have decided it's time for a dedicated blacking plant with more space, up rated tanks and systems. We are now offering in-housing blacking services.
